This is a very different kind of networking
organization than you will find elsewhere. We expect nothing
from our members except to attend the monthly lunch meetings –
no charitable causes, no fundraising, no committees, no extra
demands.
We meet the first Thursday of each month at
Fleming – A Taste of Denmark, one of Miami-Dade’s best
restaurants, offering a spectacular lunch that includes rolls
and beverage, salad, a chicken entrée with pasta or potato and
vegetable, and dessert and coffee. Members pay only $15!
It is no wonder that the meetings usually draw crowds of 100.
We gather to network at 11:30 a.m., sit
down for lunch at noon, have self-introductions, hear an
interesting speaker, and are finished at 1 p.m. The program
includes a member spotlight, where each month a member gets to
talk about their business for about 5 minutes. This happens by
random drawing, and is free. At 1 p.m., some members
leave for appointments, but many stay behind for more networking
after the meeting ends.
In July and December, instead of a lunch
meeting, the Palmetto Bay Business Association gathers at the
magnificent Palm Room of the Palmetto Bay Village Center for an
evening networking event. These are evenings featuring food,
wine and beer, and live music. It is free to members. In
fact, each member gets six tickets to bring co-workers, clients
and friends. These networking events typically have attendance
of 250.
In March and September, we meet at Fleming
for some after-hours networking. Restaurant owner Andy Hall
offers free appetizers and happy-hour drink prices, and
then members and their guests are invited to stay for dinner
at 20% off menu prices.
Membership is only $100 per year (or
$50 after July 1). What a bargain! That’s why more than 130
businesses in Palmetto Bay and the surrounding area have joined.
And unlike most organizations, most of the members attend the
lunch meeting each month.
Also, the membership directory is updated
quarterly instead of annually. This means that members who join
midyear are quickly listed among the membeship, instead of
having to wait a whole year, as is the case with many
organizations.
